What is Psychological Assessment? 

Your clinician uses standardized tests (checklists or questionnaires) along with clinical interviews, school/medical records reviews, and observational data for the purpose of diagnostic clarification, treatment planning, or accommodation recommendation. According to the referral reasons, your clinician will choose the most appropriate testing instruments to administer in order to answer the referral question. 

 

What kind of conditions or reasons are tested? 

ADHD, behavioral issues, personality disorders, learning disabilities, intellectual functioning, testing/work accommodations, etc. 

 

Who can get tested?

Anyone! Most of our clients are referred by their medical doctors, schools, workplace, and testing centers. However, you do not need to be referred in order to get tested. Sometimes clinicians will recommend testings to clarify diagnosis or for treatment planning purposes.

Does insurance cover testing costs?

It varies! It is best that you contact your insurance carrier to find out your psychological testing benefits.​

What is the psychological testing process like?

There are six steps involved in the psychological testing process:

STEP 1: Initial Contact & Insurance Authorization

During this initial contact, we will gather basic information about your concerns and needs, and also begin the process of verifying your insurance coverage. Insurance companies typically require authorization before psychological testing can proceed. This process involves submitting the necessary paperwork and clinical information to justify the need for testing. Approval may take several days to weeks, depending on your insurance provider.

STEP 2: Intake Assessment

Once authorization has been obtained, we will schedule an intake assessment. During this session, we will gather a detailed history of your concerns, including any relevant background information about your mental health, physical health, and social environment. The goal of the intake session is to clarify what specific concerns or symptoms you're experiencing and to determine what types of testing will best address your needs.

STEP 3: Test Selection

After the intake, we will select a series of psychological tests based on the areas that need further exploration. These tests are standardized and scientifically validated tools that provide insight into different aspects of psychological functioning.

STEP 4: Testing Sessions

Psychological testing often occurs over one or more sessions, depending on the number and types of tests. Each session typically lasts 1-2 hours, and you may be asked to complete tasks like answering questions, solving problems, or performing specific activities. After the testing is completed, we will score and analyze the results. This process involves interpreting the data in the context of your initial concerns and the goals we identified during the intake.

STEP 5: Feedback Session

Once the results have been analyzed, we will schedule a feedback session. During this session, I will walk you through the results of the testing and explain what they mean in relation to your mental health and functioning. We will provide you with a clear, understandable summary of the findings, including any diagnoses (if applicable), and discuss recommendations for treatment or support moving forward.

STEP 6: Final Report

You will receive a comprehensive written report summarizing the testing process, the results, and the recommendations. This report can be shared with other healthcare providers, educators, or professionals involved in your care, with your consent. If additional services such as therapy, accommodations (e.g., in school or work), or further referrals are needed, we will assist in coordinating those next steps.
